Study Abroad
Study abroad and exchange programs provide students with opportunities that they cannot find at home, including firsthand exposure to international business practices, foreign languages, and different cultures. Studying abroad allows students to take courses for Illinois State credit and can cost less than studying on campus, allowing students to travel the world without delaying their graduation or increasing their costs. The School of Communication boasts four study abroad opportunities specific to communication majors in France, the Netherlands, Panama, and Brazil.
Communication in Paris
Studying abroad in Paris offers each student an opportunity to attend ESSCA School of Management, a state-of-the-art business and communication school, which prepares students from all over the world for today's global market. Students complete senior level coursework in both leadership communication and organizational communication and are housed in traditional Parisian hotels. The experience also includes excursions to locations such as the Eiffel Tower, Tuleries Garden, Louvre Museum, Montmarte, Bastille, Notre Dame, Musee d'Orsay, Castle of Versailles, and the Paris Beach. This opportunity is targeted toward public relations and communication studies majors.

Journalism & Identity in Panama
The study abroad program in Panama is great for mass media and journalism majors and focuses on all aspects of media in Latin America. Students study racial, gender, national, and other identities in Latin American media as well as journalism in Latin America. Participants study with other students from Quality Leadership University, from Panama, Chile, or other Latin American countries and are housed in comfortable apartments in the thriving metropolis of Panama City, Panama. The experience also includes several excursions to the beach, the jungle, and the Panama Canal.

Journalism & Identity in Brazil
The Brazil program focuses on various aspects of media production and consumption in Latin America and is great for mass media and journalism majors. The program is hosted by the Universidade Federal de Ceará in Fortaleza and explores the representations of racial, gender, national and other identities in Latin American media and investigates journalism practices in various countries in Latin America. Participants stay at the Hotel Cocal in the quiet residential neighborhood of Meireles, just a five-minute walk from the famous Beach of Iraçema. Excursions include a trip to the edge of the Amazon, a game at the Castelão soccer stadium, a day at the famed Beach Park and have the opportunity to participate Brazil’s traditional June Festival.

The Netherlands: Doing Business in Europe
The School also offers a program in the Netherlands that is hosted at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. The program, which is well-suited for public relations and communication studies (focused on organizational communication) majors, leans on intercultural competence and communication to explore the legal, financial, and political aspects of the Eurozone and the diverse European cultures from a business perspective, including visits to large, multinational companies in the Netherlands and Germany. Students are housed in comfortable dormitory style housing.
