About Our Internship Program

The School of Communication equips students with skills that can be utilized in several fields. By providing students with internships students will have the opportunity to utilize and develop skills that they have learned within the classroom. The School of Communication provides a range of classes for our students. Each student has unique experiences inside and outside of the classroom that may be utilized within your organization.

What Other Employers Have Said

Our interns truly value the experience and local businesses welcome the opportunity to work with professional interns. Each intern is appreciated for their input and involvement and develops a special relationship with their supervisors. Read on to see what supervisors have said about interns from the School of Communication at Illinois State University!

The Value of Education

It's only been a couple of years since I graduated, so I can appreciate the value of taking what you learn in communication at ISU to starting your career. The things students are learning and experiencing now-including the increased emphasis on internships-make me wish I could have been around on campus a little longer. Jennifer O'Hanlon, '06; Director of Marketing Flat Top Grill Restaurants, Oak Park, IL

Part of the team

We don't call them interns, we call them associates because we depend on them to make a big difference in the quality of what we are doing. Not only does Illinois State provide us with great young people with a feel for PR and communications, but we appreciate the backing and support these associates get from the School of Communication faculty. Paul Segobiano; Director of Development Great Plains LIFE Foundation, Bloomington, IL

Strong program, strong interns

I am excited about the internship program at Illinois State because it makes the students accountable for their learning on the job and it makes an effort to get feedback from the supervisors. Having a faculty member visit us to talk about the internship and see what we are doing with the student lets us know that they are serious about trying to have a strong program. Professional experience for students is the best way to help them grow and understand professional life. Sal Garcia,'96; Multimedia Service College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, IL

Intern Initiative

Our intern is exceptionally talented, but the best thing was that she needed zero micromanaging. I could talk to her about a project, explain what we are looking for, and she was able and willing to run with it. We enjoy our partnership with Illinois State University. It benefits us both. The students use their skills in a real-world setting and the museum benefits from the professionalism and expertise. Brad Stefl, Exhibits Director Children's Discovery Museum, Normal, IL.
