Undergraduate Advising
In the School of Communication, academic advising is an essential part of the educational process. The Communication advisors are professionals who provide resources, guidance and support to undergraduate students as they explore, define and develop their educational plans to achieve their academic goals.
Meet Your Advisors
Advising Appointments
Students who have a declared Communication major and have earned at least 24 credit hours are advised in the School of Communication. First year students and general students who wish to declare a Communication major are advised in University College Academic Advisement or through the Honors Program until they are admitted into the School of Communication.
Students should plan to meet with their Communication advisor at least once per semester. Appointments are about 30 minutes long and can be conducted in-person or virtually via Zoom. Students should be prepared for their appointment, arrive on time and bring a list of questions to go over with the advisor. Students can prepare for their appointment using the "progress toward my degree" link in My.IllinoisState, the Undergraduate Catalog, Course Finder and the Plan of Study for the major.
During advanced registration, advisors will only discuss the upcoming semester. For long-term planning, students should plan to meet with their advisor outside of the primary registration period.
Drop-In Hours (Virtual)
Communication advisors will be available every Monday from 1-2p.m.
One Communication advisor will be available for drop-in hours virtually via Zoom every Monday from 1:00-2:00p.m. Drop-in hours are designed for students who have questions that can be answered relatively quickly and will be answered on a first come, first served basis. Drop-in hours follow the academic calendar beginning with the first week of classes through the last week of classes.
